If I inadvertently place my hand on a hot stove and quickly withdraw it, you may wish to call that behavior "purple". I call it "instinct".

Calling it instinct is simply saying you do it for some reason which you cannot fully describe, yet which is beneficial in this case. Get a modern college biology textbook and read the description of instinct. It will say what I say it is, a word that covers our ignorance.

The use of good and evil for explanatory reasons for human actions are similar to the use of instinct when referring to animal behavior: OK for placing a label that most people feel comfortable with, but totally useless if you want to understand the causal reasons.
