This goose is cooked. I think NASA should send the shuttle up unmanned, finish ISS, and pull the plug.

I was born at the Cape, literally, and grew up with rockets. I sit in my office below a plaque from NASA given to my Dad for his work on the Apollo program. He was at the Cape for early Gemini on to Skylab. As much as I hate to agree with your assessment, I think it's the prudent course. This is not my father's NASA.

Manned spaceflight/exploration is our one hope for survival, but the Shuttle needs to be put up at the Smithsonian along with the Mercury/Gemini and others. The trend is definitely toward the privatization of space flight, am eager to see what can be done.
