My tendencies as well, but..

Reproduction is generally seen as the most fundamental right, along with how to raise and instill values in your kids. It gets rather more complex when reproductive behavior is such that the rest of society is burdened with the task. Does society just pay, but have no say?

In our modern society, just correctly doing the accounting is not simple. For the last 30 years, the average federal tax burden across all tax payers has remained around 21% (+/-1% IIRC). This despite about every combo of political control in Washington. Yet for tax payers at the lowest 10%, the government is a net source of wealth, exactly how much being dominated by reproduction. I think both Dems & Reps support this fact, sometimes for different reasons, but it is a very ingrained fact. The changes in tax burden for different brackets has BTW, fluctuated more, which reflects political views on this issue.
