I agree with some of what you said about the situation in the ME, but you can't classify Friedman as someone who doesn't know what he is talking about. He has spent his entire career as a journalist working in the ME. He has 30+ years of experience covering Lebanon, Syria, Israel, Palestine, and every other country in that region. I would bet he has more experience and knowledge about the interworkings of those countries and the minds of the Arabs and Israelis over there than anyone on this thread.

So when he has something to say, I generally listen. I don't always agree with what he says, but he is remarkably well informed and has access to the highest circles in the Middle East as well as in this country.
