Looking at the gold backing of the dollar, I came up with approximately 1.7% for M2 and 1.1% for M3 assuming 8,000 tons (are these short tons?) and a gold value of $426 per troy ounce.

Looking at the corresponding figures of Switzerland (46%, 39%) this is quite sobering. Are these low U.S. figures in the ball park or am I missing something?
