I suspect that, at heart, being a lawyer and being a salesman are actually quite different, no matter how similar they may seem on the outside.

From what you've said, my impression is that your interactions with lawyers have been watching the public performances of the ones who specialize in trying to persuade strangers in public forums, using techniques similar to salesmanship.

What I do mostly is counselling, interacting one-on-one with people in privacy. They don't seem a bit like sheep in those surroundings.

Nor in airports. I see happy people on vacation, bored people on the job, and quietly excited people on the way to see loved ones. The last trip I took, on the way there, I sat next to a lady who was a professional photographer on her way to marry her third husband. On the way back, I sat next to a Ph.D. economics professor prepping for a Money and Banking class. I like to draw people out and get them to tell me their life stories.

I meet the most fascinating people. I think of you as one of them.
