Because if you haven't noticed, one of the biggest issues in today's world is terrorism. 99%+ of all terrorism today is perpetrated by Muslims. So that is the world's area of focus right now, as it should be.

Crime that is contained isn't an existential threat to open societies. Terrorism, on the other hand, has the potential to cut the heart of open societies in that they lead to more close societies. This makes terrorism an existential threat, especially when you combine terrorism with WMD, which we all know is Al Qaeda's wet dream.

So do I care about crime? Yes. Am I worried about crime, which is a contained threat to our country? No. Am I more worried about terrorism and it's growing frequency and atrocity? Yes.
