Liberal socioeconomic-political systems and democracy are not the same thing and are not even connected at the hip. We didn't go to help the Shiites, we went to get the Shiites to help us get the oil and put military bases in Iraq. That they prefer to thumb their collective noses at us and help the Iranians is their free choice. It is apparently our free choice to foot the bill. At any rate, we're shoving the Sunnis back in - note that both the Iraqis and the US are ignoring the results of the elections by pushing the Sunnis back in. Is this going to be a three state solution with the Sunnis out of luck on oil revenues? Kurds: oil. Shiites: oil. Sunnis: sand.
