And his son. And his dog. The dog excepted, all were pistol-packing paranoiacs. They were a strange family with the most illogical fears one can imagine. Basically they were no threat to anyone, however. The government had no sufficient reason to mount that siege against a family holed up in a plywood shack with not electricity and no running water.

It seemed to be the style of the era, because Waco and Elian Gonzales followed suit before the rascals were voted out.
