neolib, you are conflating the Islamists with all of the Sunni Iraqi insurgents No, I noted that we held talks with one but not (so far) with the other. With the jihadis there is no use talking. Perhaps with the currently minted ones, but I think there is reason to address the issues that produce them. Religious nutcases occasionally come around. Here in the West we have many from one group that once committed quite a crime (Mountain Meadows Massacre of 1857) that are now model citizens, in fact one of my Senators is of that religion.
