Well, both Jewish & Christian holy writings have quite a bit of objectionable smiting of unbelievers as well. The fact that most modern Jews & Christians don't actually believe is doing so is to their credit. That is more of the key to the problem than the ancient manuscripts. And yes, I'm well aware that the N.T. is kinder & gentler than the O.T., but it is not lost on me that many conservative Christians are quite excited to see war in the M.E., as that is necessary for Jesus to return. Jihad & Armaggedon. Makes me think of motes, beams, and eyes for some reason.
