Hi El Mat - the US tax system tends to be progressive, so if you get a chance to come to the US, try to get the assignments so they start and end in the middle of calendar years, instead of whole years. If you do Jan 06 to Dec 07, you will have 2 years each with close 100% pay in the US. If you do July 06 to June 08, the half years will tend to keep you in a lower tax bracket.

Then you can try to move more of the deductabile expenses into the middle 100% years, and maybe increase the tax defered items like 401 (k) contributions during that year.

I expect there are some ex-pat tax advice sites around...
