Any idea why the Left and some government types continually want more and more federal funding for this embryonic research, while many other types of stem cell research seems at least as, but apparently, more promising....?

I imagine it's that

1) funding for embryonic stem cell research is the only type of research at issue

2) there is still a lot of opinion that embryonic stem cells are the most promising, or at least no strong evidence that they are not at all promising so there is risk to progress in taking away that option;

3) they don't want to give up any ground on the abortion question, and

4) they think this is a win given how few people there are who are that sentimental about cells.
