RESEARCH ALERT-Lehman raises Varian Semi to "overweight" Mon Aug 1, 2005 09:08 AM ET NEW YORK, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Lehman Brothers on Monday raised its investment rating on Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates Inc. (VSEA.O: Quote, Profile, Research) to "overweight" from "equal-weight," saying the company was its top pick among chip equipment makers. Reasons for the upgrade included better-than-industry average growth prospects that are driven by market share gains, solid earnings leverage and strong cash generation, the firm wrote in a note to clients.
