Very good advice! Always drive defensively as if the other guy is out to get you. Scan the roadsides for animals, people, and obstructions. Never assume that the other guy will stop at a stop sign or yield sign. Always be ready to steer away or brake.

About 30 years ago my boss attended the wedding of a sparkling young couple. They were killed on their honeymoon by a car that ran a stop sign. Totally senseless.

I have a relative (for the time being) by marriage who is a California Tailgater. He nearly killed us twice within a couple of hours. Once when the traffic was stopped suddenly for a grass fire and once when his tire blew out. I refuse to ride with him anymore, which will be all too soon if I never see him again.
