On the issue of the red haired blue eyed Mufti discrediting profiling

Not hardly.

Nothing is 100%, but statistical sampling of 2-3% of Nordic looking individuals might be sufficient while ME looking young males might require a 30-40% sampling rate to achieve the same result.

Individual cases are insignificant.

But unless you check 100% - some problems will leak through.

Statistically there perhaps may be somewhat a lot less than 100 million Nordic looking individuals on earth. There maybe perhaps more than 1 billion ME looking young males. There may also be more than 30 - 40 million young ME looking young females that could pass for young ME looking males and vice versa.

Where do you draw the line at ME looking young males? You can't just draw the line at the borders of Pakistan. You would have to extend that profile to all those on the Indian subcontinent. And you can't really stop there. How can you "educate" a profiler to distinguish between Indonesians, Filipinos, and Latin Americans. Or, on the other side, distinguish between some Egyptians and many South Africans.

I don't mind that you give the Nordic looking types a free pass, but there are many Nordics that do not look classically Nordic. I think you risk offending those people.

Just think about writing the manual for how profilers are to give free passes.

From a policy point of view, how many of the 5 billion people on earth do you think should be given a free pass in searches? 50 million? 100 Million? 1 Billion?

From a statistical point of view, my guess is there are currently no more than a few thousand individuals that Al QAeda can control that are willing to blow themselves up for their cause. I am also willing to bet that out of those few thousand individuals, a few dozen or more of them may be able to pass for "others".

Al Qaeda people are then probably smart enough (Although I have a tough time believing they could be that smart) to concentrate on those few "other" looking types - and their job will be made a lot easier by profilers.
