[DMT VDSL a Superior Solution ]
j,
On the VDSL side, CAP leaks from copper lines, and interferes with Short-wave and Amateur Radio. We in the U.S. may not oppose CAP as we don't use short-wave radio, therefore there is no Industry clout (muscle & $$) to fight the issue, only a few million Amateur Radio Operators (like Steve S. and Walt) not much opposition there. No refection on the names mentioned.
What you get with VDSL/CAP, those telephone poles strung though-out your neighborhood becoming a large antenna for CAP Emissions. In Europe full of Short-wave and Amateur Radio, this becomes a problem and therefore will be given a hard look before thinking of a CAP solution for VDSL.
As in ADSL, VDSL CAP is a cheap quick solution, quicker to market, and more profit in the vendors pocket.
DMT implementation is much easier in VDSL, as compared to ADSL.
When the price is the same to the consumer, I prefer a Mercedes Benz, over Volkswagon Beetles.
The NEC VDSL/DMT Chips should be in production already, have not checked, though I did hear they are ahead of scedule on the .25 micron chip, plus a new FAB. Amati Engineers worked directly with the NEC Fabrication folks prior to June 96, and have been working on VDSL for almost three years now.
This is a very short and fairly easy to understand summation on my research, I am not a Comm. Engineer, just a writer of songs, and on occasion, I run out and light the fuse on the Space Shuttle and other projectiles that turn Night into Day here on the Space Coast.
