... I can think of some mining and biotech stocks that give it a run for its ruble... !!! (or at least close... :-)
Other than that, the fact the guys running the country have gotten so rich --- since it's been possible --- so enjoy driving BMWs, being jet setters, and having their kids in schools in England and the States, that "the market" should be quite viable... risky as you say, but a long way better than a couple of years ago when we were talking about the viability, on a *macro* level, of the (last decade's) changes themselves.
As for your Ukranian love interest --- hope she's someone you met in Charlottsville, and not on one of Russia's popular new dating-services web pages, Visa & Mastercard accepted! :-)) --- if she's your age, she'll probably tell you you're paranoid. If she's ten years older (older than 30, that is) she'll tell you things are *much worse* than what you've said. I've found that the *last* one to ask about what's next to come in Russia is an (old) Russian. Those (New Russian) girls --- something else --- make me sing and shout... !!! Have fun.
(They love flowers... not phone-bought flowers delivered by some stranger... but flowers you have picked just for her, from all the flowers in the field, yourself. You must walk to the field, look at each of the flowers, find those few that are special for your love --- and to each of them, you must (truthfully) say, "There is a woman I love who *needs* you --- so I must kill you." And pluck those flowers you have chosen. Walk from the field with these flowers, back to your love, and hand them to her directly... just being careful NOT to hand them across the threshold of a door!!!)
The most important thing is to do this so the woman can see her man's eyes as he hands her these flowers.
