Actually, my wife worked there until several weeks ago. The problem isn't the fact that the hospital is in a "ghetto." The problem is that the work culture there is so backwards that the only ones willing to stay there are those who are just in it for the money. It's no wonder there are so many deaths there due to patient neglect, thus earning the nickname "Killer King."

I thought that was the average teacher's salary in CA.

You forget. Teachers get the summer off, so their salary of $50K/year is equivalent to someone making $66K/year but doesn't get to take the summer off. Not bad for a job that also promises more job security than most working in the private sector.
