I speed all the time and get caught regularly...but I've never paid for a speeding ticket in Louisiana in 20 years. Don't bother with a radar detector.

Don't ask, I'll tell you no lies.

It's a different story in Texas, where the wide open spaces practically invite one to put the pedal to the metal. I've been ticketed there, too, but have never had a ticket dismissed. However, it turns out that Louisiana insurers must rarely check driving records or Texas doesn't bother with forwarding the information. In any event, Louisiana doesn't know about my Texas tickets so my insurance premium stays low.

The most memorable ticket I've had in Texas was on the 4th of July, when I was cruising somewhere in the panhandle at 95 mph more or less in an empty piece of road at 6 a.m. on the way to Colorado. The Trooper and I were the only travelers on the road. He got me, gave me a ticket in a county whose motto I'll forever remember: "God, grit and grass."
