re: I think this is an example of a very vocal minority getting its food in the door. Hopefully, the door will slam shut real hard.

You mean like a few atheists suing everyone about crosses and biblical references like in San Diego and the like?

Yes, the two groups are similar although the religious right tends to be more zealous and a larger minority.

re:Not with the people I know.

That's not the point - the presentation and discussion of theories in a class room setting is what teaches people to think if done by a competent teacher. I understand your fear "they" are trying to replace the currently more acceptable theory,

Its not fear.......its disgust. There is nothing behind their view but a book written by the ancients who were even more fearful, ignorant and myth based than we are.

but it is in fact a theory

No, it isn't. There are no facts that led to the conclusions of ID. Its based on the story telling of early humans. And there is nothing empirical about the story. In fact, it does not look there is any factual proof of Jesus's existence. And you want this story taught side by side with evolution?

and I doubt this will create a nation of "magic hand" creationists any more than having a Christmas party in grade school will create christians or belief Santa actually lives at the north pole.

It reinforces non scientific thinking. It gives credence to people whom I believe are not the best of us. If you want to push Intelligent Design, do it in Sunday School, and not a secular school.
