This whole debate is moot if we take government out of the education business. As long as government insists on putting its imprimatur on what is taught, no matter what is taught, a lot of folks are going to be fighting mad.

Now the winners of any particular battle can tell the losers to shut up and suck it up, but this is not the way to insure tranquility in our extreme and increasingly pluralistic society.
