Because that's the field it belongs too - science has evolved over time as we've refined what we call the "scientific method".

I don't - but being exposed to a theory in no way means it's true, that's why they are called theories. The fact is ID is a semi-popular/modern theory of our times and students should be familiar with the theory - to be kept ignorant is not the same thing as being educated.
