So exactly what is "simplistic and foolish" about my view?

NASA employs at least 14,000 people and over a period of 30 years has only managed a handful of manned missions for a vast expenditure of man hours and wealth.

Contrastingly, in a very short time a miniscule private outfit has achieved remarkable strides in developing operating prototype for proof of concept for a space vehicle for a remarkably small expenditure.

NASA is sclerotic. It managed a moon mission when I was young. I'm becoming old, and they still haven't gone back despite the huge advances in material sciences and technology during the interval.

Thirty years. And there is still no second generation space shuttle despite the full understanding 20yrs ago that the shuttle would reach the end of its design life by 2005.

In a year, a handful of MIT or CalTech post grads could design a new space shuttle system which would be lighter, safer and more efficient than the present one.
