Coherent Announces Worldwide Deployment of Bi-Directional Echo Canceller
Greater-than-expected customer demand for EC Duo
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 10, 1997--Coherent Communications Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:CCSC - news) today announced that EC Duo has been widely deployed by key customers on an international basis. Introduced in March 1997, EC Duo is the industry's first available echo canceller solution specifically designed to eliminate bi-directional noise and echo across a digital wireless network. Coherent is exhibiting at PCS '97 in Dallas, Texas, Booth 23021.
``Initial sales of EC Duo have already exceeded our early forecasts,'' said Dan McGinnis, chief executive officer at Coherent. ``Since its introduction, EC Duo has delivered outstanding cancellation performance across domestic and international CDMA, TDMA and GSM networks working in tandem with public-switched wireline networks, and is now fully implemented in a large international GSM network.''
The growth of digital wireless networks has substantially increased the complexity of echo generated across the wireline/wireless environment. Voice quality across a wireless network is affected by PSTN-generated echo and acoustic echo produced by mobile handsets and hands-free devices. Within digital networks, echo cancellation is critical due to the combined effects of digital delays, acoustic echo and hybrid echo generated between callers. Existing echo cancellation systems suppress or eliminate echo on only one side of the conversation, and must be used in pairs to process the entire voice path. EC Duo is the only bi-directional solution that incorporates true echo cancellation and optimizes voice quality at both ends of the call, resulting in higher customer satisfaction and retention and increased talk time revenues.
Based on Coherent's patented RISC-based signal processing techniques, EC Duo incorporates two EC-6000 Series 2 echo cancellers in a single-board solution. This two-in-one configuration reduces hardware space on the network and delivers greater dedicated processing power to eliminate echo and enhance voice quality on both ends of the call.
Coherent's advanced, application-specific voice and data optimization software solutions can also be incorporated into the EC Duo. Audio Plus eliminates acoustic and network echo generated from the 2/4-wire PSTN conversion point, enhancing call quality for the mobile user. Enhanced Audio Plus completely cancels acoustic echo generated from mobile handsets and hands-free devices, optimizing call quality for the wireline user. Coherent's level optimization solution, Sculptured Sound, further refines audio performance by dynamically adjusting for network level variations as signals are processed through the network.
Network operators can manage EC Duo from a remote or centralized location by implementing Coherent's Management, Observation and Response (c/mor) system. Newly installed or existing equipment can be remotely configured with c/mor, and operators can manage the devices through customized monitoring and tracking features such as alarm notifications, active speech signal levels and detection of voice/non-voice signals. With c/mor, operators have complete remote control of multiple echo canceller sites.
EC Duo is available through Coherent's direct sales force.
