The state dictating what children are to believe is a clear violation of the 1st

I would hope the state would teach my children to believe that 1+1=2, and that O2+H2->2H2O + heat, and that the observable, describable process (to the molecular level) of evolution has a well explored theoretical basis.

Your country's founders believed in God and Science. But in the end, for good practical reasons, decided the country's government should favour no religion.

People don't oppress and kill each other over issues of science but they have done so, and still do, over religious issues.

Intelligent design and creationism are religious beliefs and thus are not in the same category of knowledge as science.

Formally intermingling science and religion debases both.

Your founders were definitely in favour of public education and certainly did not see instruction in reasoning, calculation, reading, writing and science as an abridgement of any freedoms - they believed the contrary.
