Elroy, re:A democracy basically means the people elect their leadership, and the leadership makes the rules that the people follow. Repeat every 4-6 years. That's a start - you also need checks and balances to keep the elected from taking ever more power for themselves and turning a democratically elected government into a dictatorship. By allowing mullahs to over rule the laws of government they are in fact an unelected government. Many countries put on an election to pretend they are democratic. This was an interesting read: foreignaffairs.org They point out that even in America's democracy we tolerated slavery for some time.
