Sure, with your solution we would leave the bad guys to blow up their own and not bother with that.

Right, but I figure their good guys could locate and deal with their bad guys a hell of a lot better than we can. The Fidels could try at the ballot box, lose, and then they would quickly become marginalized. Look at Indonesia or Malaysia.

Right now we are leaving the dirt rich few of their own to suck in the oil incomes and don't bother with that. So In your opinion we should reverse our politics here, right?

No, the main role we would play would be making the effort to ensure that its not one election and finished because the winner wants to be the next Mubarak. How to distribute wealth would become their decision once the population has the ability to choose its own leadership.

Make the distribution of their riches our business while leaving it up to the vermin down there to blow up the 99.9 promille (pro mille, .1%, 1000ppm) of their own- and a few Westerners living down there with them. This as a predictable result of democratic elections rather than an elusive effort of mine to read your mind.

Well, I think the local security forces (which are extensive in all these countries) would win the battle with the fidels. As for blowing up Westerners, why bother? We wouldn't get to vote. We're just observers of their politcal process in action.

Hell, the fidels could even have geographies where the more pious can live their lifestyle. Its like that where I live. In some provinces there is no alcohol and if a women shows he belly button in public she's off to the slammer. In others it's anything goes. People can choose which lifestyle is for them. Personally, I prefer seeing women's bellybuttons so I don't go to that pious province.
