There are many valid interpretations of both concepts. Strictly speaking, Buddhism does not state reincarnation in its commonly understood meaning, and it can also mean something akin to passing on the flame; i.e. the essence of one's life, which is not necessarily some metaphysical spirit but can also be a collection of one's beliefs and life's works, is passed on to next generation. This is a minority view in Buddhist circles, but is a valid one nonetheless.

Similarly, there is nothing that states Resurrection has to be a physical process or that Heaven and Hell are physical locations. Some people believe that Hell is simply a mental state that you take with yourself to your after life. As such it is not what God does to you but what you have done to yourself.

All holy scriptures can be taken literally or figuratively.

If you wish to argue that either of these beliefs is a response to a particular need or to trace their historical genesis, be my guest.

By necessity, a thread like this brings out every one's basic beliefs and we all believe that our own beliefs are the "right" one. But there is a fine line between arguing one's case and bigotry or provoking hostile responses from others. As the moderator, I get to decide where that line is crossed. Prior to Solon, nobody was banned here and even in his case it had nothing to do with beliefs but with his personality. If you read the thread from the beginning, you will see that there have been a number of people with varying beliefs contributing here.
