Reincarnation was also a belief of early Christians. The early Christian writings (suppressed by the Roman literalists) such as the Pistis Sophia, the Book of the Saviour and the Secret Book of John embrace the idea of reincarnation. The early Christian philosopher Origen also believed that all souls would be eventually be saved by repeated incarnations.

Similarly, the Resurrection was originally construed by Christians to be a spiritual rather than a physical event.
