That's a start - you also need checks and balances to keep the elected from taking ever more power for themselves and turning a democratically elected government into a dictatorship. By allowing mullahs to over rule the laws of government they are in fact an unelected government. Many countries put on an election to pretend they are democratic.


Yup. Iran has a democracy of sorts.....and the population is well educated for the ME. That's why there is/was hope that Iran might turn the corner and become a democratic beacon for the rest of the ME. It helps that the Iranians are Farsi and not Arab.

And during elections, Iranians have real choices........its a not a fake guy vs the regime's favorite like other countries. The only problem with 'their democracy' is that the ayatollahs determine who can run and who can't.......who has the right ideology for Iran and who does not. Its the equivalent of running two people from the GOP and no one else. Its a democracy of sorts but not what we would call democracy.
