Re: "Buddy is correct, there were over a million people killed during the Iran/Iraq War. We know this because both the Iraqis and Iranians acknowledge the number (and both sides acknowledge that Iraq used Chemical Weapons to stop the Iranians - and Kurds)."

Thanks, Dave.

I think wstera was possibly EXTREMELY CONFUSED, and in his mind got his wars mixed up.

(Perhaps he now knows that there was a Gulf War *before* Desert Storm....)

Re: Of course it's not clear that after the Iran/Iraq war, Saddam's army was "trashed".

Yah, but I didn't say that. What I said was: "... followed by the trashing of his remaining military by the US in Desert Storm"

But --- if I may be allowed to 'revise and extend my remarks' <G>, I'd go back and say that the first Gulf War seriously depleted his military potential, and his political position (he narrowly survived, according to the CIA) but --- as you properly note --- he resupplied and restructured and rebounded, to the extent he was capable of, prior to his military's 'trashing' in Desert Storm.
