<<Aren't illegal immigrants not paying the property taxes directly as owners or indirectly as renters?>>
That's the wrong question. It costs the State of California more than $7,500 a year to keep a student in school. The tab goes up to $10,000-plus for junior college or state college, and further upwards for a UC education. These schools also receive financial subsidies from a variety of other government entities, trusts, private foundations, and contributions from wealthy alumni.
Do you know of many illegal immigrants paying $7,500 - $10,000 in property tax each year?
Further, California is ranked between 26th and 42nd in the U.S. on spending for education. The tab is much higher in other states. Providing an education to illegal immigrants, or to anybody else for that matter, is not a money-making proposition.
The stats for health care, the penal system, the judicial system, etc. are even worse. |
