Here lawyers have to do the settlements, and hold and then disburse the funds from escrow, but most people never actually interact with the lawyer other than as someone who's sitting in the conference room passing around the documents. Their paralegals or secretaries do most of the work but it's nice to have a real lawyer there if things get sticky.
