You know one of the best things about our country? Our freedom allows citizens to criticize US actions, and examine mistakes we may have made. One of the things you notice about totalitarian countries is that no one criticizes the government. Soldiers may commit atrocities, but no one can mention it. People may be starving, but no one can mention it. Corruption may exist, but the papers can't write about it- unless the corruption can be blamed on a scapegoat the regime wants to vilify.

I am glad every day that we still live in the kind of country where we have the most important freedom of all- the freedom to look at our own country. When we lose that, whether to uber-patriots, or to run of the mill totalitarian strongmen, America will cease to exist as a free place. Freedom is defined by the ability of people to do what a majority find objectionable. The freedom to wave a flag and shout the slogans of the majority is the kind of "freedom" available in any dictatorship.
