Udall being a new democrat I have to wonder if he would have supported the gutting of our military his prior democrats accomplished?

I am glad to see any Congressman address the severe current military manpower shortage.

Now if we can get them to understand that a Congressional mandate to increase military strength is meaningless unless they provide the means to do so.

The US Army has an authorized end strength of 542,400 right now. That includes 512,400 in the original FY budget, plus an additional 30,000 that was put in place months ago. Yet they only have 489,971 in uniform...That is 52,429 below current authorized strength levels. And that is after huge increases in both recruiters and recruiting bonuses for enlistees.

That is why I said Udall's proposal is all smoke. There is no point in Congress authorizing 80,000 additional slots unless they provide the means to fill them.
