The charge was suspected DUI.

Huh? Is there such a charge? Reckon not . . . .

A few years ago we were getting ready to watch the grand finale of a series we liked on the Sci Fi channel, so Chris was in a hurry when he went to the Safeway to get a few things, probably cat food, pop corn and beer.

When he pulled out of his place, he bumped a parked car, got out, and couldn't see any damage so came on home.

A couple of hours later a squad car pulled up, and a policeman rang the doorbell, wanted to talk about a "hit and run." Chris had been drinking while he watched the show so the cop wanted to charge him with DUI! I was really hot, and started lecturing him on probable cause. But the cop only charged him with criminal hit and run! At least he only got a ticket, didn't get taken in. I warned Chris not to go outside the house so the cop couldn't charge him with DIP, "drunk in public", which is a trick they like to play. All they need to "prove" DIP is "I smelled alcohol on his breath and he looked like he was having difficulty standing."

Eventually I got a photo of the other car from our insurance company, and showed it to the prosecutor -- neither one of us could even see the ding, so they dropped it. Less than $200 damage to the vehicle.
