The data is pretty straight forward and can be extracted from the NY Times article. 4 doses were tested but since two shots are required, even the highest dose needed improvement. Thus, the highest concentration is required and it must be given twice.

All of this data indicates the vaccine is borderline (gets to a titer of 40) when tested in the best responders (young adults) against the immunizing virus (H5N1 from Vietnam in 2004).

In contrast, natural immunity to the 1918 strain produces a titer over 1000 that can be detected 85 years after exposure in people that are over 85 years of age.

The data for the new vaccine in older people or children still needs to be determined and the 2005 isolates from Qinghai (the virus racing across Russia toward Europe), has already changed too much
