Real Estate Captal Gains: So what are capital gains rates on real estate these days, 15%? I've talked to two friends lately who have sold rental properties in coastal California thinking they were way overvalued. But they turn around and put the money right back into real estate - inland california (e.g. Merced) and Arizona. These guys are so terrified of paying any taxes that they are buying into the Phoenix bubble - plus the hassle of managing rental property from a distance.
