It shows that politicians do not understand the problem and pass feel good legislation at the expense of our rights.

The question is one of goals - do you want to reduce gun crime or do you want to ban guns. It has many parallels in the current debate of hate speech vs free speech. How do you stop the one without restricting the other. All too often gun debates turn into out right calls for a ban - which won't work, as a person that will commit a murder is breaking many laws beyond possessing an illegal weapon. England is positive proof the banning guns only keeps guns out of honest hands.
