I'd like to see an experiment where they produce two articles, one straight news and the other whatever value they choose to add to it. It might be fun to see them publish that way for a week and see what happens.

Who is the "they?" The AP or the NYTimes. If it's the NYTimes and if they used their top shelf people, say a John Burns, I'm not certain I would want to read it. For much of his time in Iraq, he spent inside the US zone. But his reading of things was the best of the major media reporters. The only person whose reading was better, at least that I read regularly, was Juan Cole. But that's definitely not a fair comparison since Cole not only has a PhD in Shiite matters but is clearly smarter and more articulate than your average every day PhD.
