My mom has DSL with her phone line. Have you checked into that? There's a splitter so you can still use your phone.

I glanced at it. It's more expensive than cable and I'm really not unhappy with the speed I have. I'm totally self-indulgent when something matters to me, but I just don't see significant benefit in more speed. I'm retired and multi-programmed so I can wait a three or four seconds to view a page. That slight wait is hardly noticeable much less annoying to me. I really don't "get" the need for speed. Once they make my TV shows available over the internet, then I'll care. But that's a ways away.

The reason I was looking at cable was that then I could get rid of my phone land line which, other than internet, gets used just a few minutes a month. I could use my cell phone for those calls and have one less piece of equipment to contend with. Now, simplicity is something I do care about. <g>
