My computer is four years old. It came with ME installed and I haven't migrated to XP. But then I don't think my operating system was your question.

Re downloading service packs, I do that kind of downloading in background. It really doesn't matter how long it takes if you're not held up by the slowness of the process. It's not like service packs need to be installed immediately.
