You're right, it wasn't my question. Just thought that keeping XP up-to-date properly makes it nearly mandatory to have a broadband connection. Let's say a dial-up user with an analog modem dedicates about 20 of the available 56 kbps to a background download. That's about 2 KByte/s or 7 MByte/h. A complete SP2 would require 40 hours.

CSPAN can be very useful for observing the body language of speakers. You don't get that in written statements and articles.

Any specific reason why you don't like a "cable box"? For my cable Net access I have one device with the size of a cigarette box (amplifier and back channel module) and the cable modem. With a wireless access point (AP) those two devices (well, three including the AP) could be placed nearly anywhere in a flat or house, especially where they are out of sight.
