Oil Surges, Setting New Record of Nearly $64 a Barrel

With little positive news to restrain oil markets, crude oil prices kicked off the week with a new record of nearly $64 a barrel today, pushed higher by concerns over Middle Eastern supplies and refinery shutdowns in the United States.

Crude oil for September delivery climbed as much 2.7 percent to a high of $63.99 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Lately this afternoon, September oil futures were trading up $1.24, to $63.55 a barrel. Oil prices have risen about 47 percent this year.
