Half mile is an exaggeration without using artillery. Well, I don't know much about guns...anyway, it looked far away. A lot of prairie dogs are shot by ranchers where poisons have been banned and the holes created by these pests present a hazard to livestock (horses and cows step in the holes and break legs). It grew out of the legitimate need into a sport for city boys (gals) to test their long range "skills". Yes, I heard the defense by the shooters on the segment. Problem is that they don't even begin to put a dent in the population of the doggies. There are thousands for everyone they shoot. It's just a mean spirited thing, brings out one of the less attractive of human attributes. Al
