You can track development in your neighborhood, search its "layers" function to find anything from grocery stores, gas stations, web cams, pharmacies and even coffee shops. You can find parks anywhere and also use it to check out the location of schools, hospitals, city boundaries, crime statistics and population counts. I haven't used all of those functions, and they really represent a very few of the numerous capabilities of Google Earth.

It is going to take me some time and energy to understand how the site works so that I instinctively glom on. The site sure does contain a whole lot more information than MapQuest. And is much more fun too. ;)
