Yes. It's very clear. I think we agree that we can't expect our soldiers to refrain from committing atrocities in war. I think we've been lucky, to a great extent, that no war has been fought here, on American soil, in quite a long time. I think when you start fighting on your own turf you get a lot more desperate, and a lot less ethical, but all men lose their moral bearings on the field of war, or maybe there really isn't any compass for that field. I'm not really sure. So I think we sort of agree on that.

I find it a logical error to have used the nuclear bomb. By using it we logically lost the moral high ground. We will forever be the first country to have used nuclear weapons. That's a heavy burden to bear. I realize the size of the atrocity of the nuclear bombings makes people eager to justify it- I guess that's a good thing. I suppose it would be worse if people felt they didn't need to justify it at all. It would be better (in our opinion- since you and I agree on this, I think) if people agreed with us, that it should not have been done, because it was a direct civilian attack, and took war to the level of obliterating thousands of civilians (220 THOUSAND civilians killed instantly- 140k in Hiroshima, and 80 THOUSAND civilians in Nagasaki). It is very disturbing to think of those thousands of civilians. It is very disturbing to think that the US was the first to use Nuclear weapons because they were expedient.
