Hi folks,

I have some questions for people on this thread, especially those who have used AOL much. (I have never used it) How exactly does the advertising on AOL work? Does it come up only in the AOL application window, or is it in the browser too? If i use AOL, but i download netscape communicator and use this as my preferred browser, do i avoid much of the advertisment from aol sponsors?

The reason i ask these questions is the following. It is my understanding that microsoft is aggressively pursuing a strategy, beginning with windows 98, in which the distinction between the desktop and the browser fades away. The idea, i guess, is that you will eventually have one shell which seemlessly allows you to 'browse' both the contents of your own storage space and the internet. If microsoft is successful in pushing this, (how can they fail?--resistance is futile) will this inhibit AOL's ability to push through their advertisers messages merely because they are providing the on-ramp to the internet? Any thoughts on how this will work?
