What does it hurt that Banana Man's rantings are given publicity?

It hurts in that it fosters polarization to hurl the most extreme stuff back and forth rather than dismissing it as the silliness of a few lost souls.

It hurts in that it makes such silliness available to more people with whom it might resonate.

It hurts in that repetition tends to legitimize even when the framework is negative--sort of like the show biz notion that all publicity is good publicity.

And it hurts the people who dwell on it, feeding their own negativity.

In contrast, what benefit is there? Balance? Balanced polarization and balanced negativity and balanced hostility. Yep, that's something to strive for...
